What is Indapamide 1.5 mg? Indapamide 1.5 mg is a once-daily, modified-release (sustained-release) tablet prescribed to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. It belongs to the thiazide-like diuretic class but is distinct from older water tablets — at this low dose, its primary action is relaxing blood vessels rather than driving large amounts of urine output. This makes it one of the most well-tolerated and metabolically friendly antihypertensive diuretics available today.
Who is Indapamide 1.5 mg prescribed for? It is indicated for adult patients with essential hypertension (high blood pressure without a directly identifiable cause). It is a particularly good choice for patients who also have diabetes, high cholesterol, or obesity, because unlike older thiazide diuretics, Indapamide 1.5 mg has minimal effect on blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid levels. How to take Indapamide 1.5 mg Take one tablet by mouth once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water — do not crush, break, or chew it, as doing so destroys the modified-release coating and causes too much medicine to be released at once. Take it at the same time each day. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor, even if you feel well.
Common side effects Indapamide is generally well-tolerated. The most common side effects include low potassium levels (hypokalaemia — which may cause muscle cramps or weakness), dizziness, headache, nausea, and increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight (photosensitivity). Drink adequate water and inform your doctor if you experience unusual muscle cramps, extreme thirst, or irregular heartbeat, as these may indicate electrolyte changes.
