What is Embagrel? 

Embagrel is a prescription-only combination antiplatelet tablet containing two active ingredients — Clopidogrel and Aspirin — in a single convenient dose. It is designed for patients who require dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT), a clinically proven treatment strategy that combines two different blood clot-preventing mechanisms for stronger, more effective cardiovascular protection. Rather than taking two separate tablets, Embagrel delivers both medicines together — improving convenience, compliance, and consistency of treatment.

What is it used for?

• Prevention of heart attack (myocardial infarction) in high-risk patients
• Prevention of stroke and TIA (transient ischaemic attack / mini-stroke)
• Post-coronary stenting — preventing stent thrombosis (clot in the stent)
• After coronary angioplasty or bypass surgery (CABG)
• Acute coronary syndrome (ACS) — unstable angina or NSTEMI management
• Long-term cardiovascular protection in patients with established heart disease
• Peripheral artery disease (PAD) — reducing clot risk in leg arteries

How to take it Take one Embagrel tablet once daily, with or without food. Swallow whole with a full glass of water. Taking it after food is recommended to reduce the chance of stomach irritation from the aspirin component. Always take at the same time each day to maintain consistent antiplatelet protection.

Important things to know before buying

Common side effects Because Embagrel contains two active ingredients, side effects from both components may occur:

From Clopidogrel:

• Rarely — serious bleeding episodes

From Aspirin:

• Stomach irritation, heartburn, or indigestion
• Nausea or stomach discomfort
• Increased bleeding tendency

Serious side effects — seek immediate medical attention if you notice:

•  Black, tarry, or bloody stools — sign of stomach bleeding
•  Vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
• Sudden severe headache, vision changes, or weakness — signs of brain bleed
• Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Unexplained fever with muscle pain or dark urine — rare but serious blood disorder (TTP)

Who is this for? Embagrel is prescribed for:

• Patients who have had a coronary stent (PCI) placed — must complete full DAPT course as directed
• Those who have suffered a heart attack or acute coronary syndrome

Storage Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep in the original packaging. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
