What is Histolat Syrup?
Histolat is an antihistamine syrup containing levocetirizine dihydrochloride 2.5 mg per 5 ml. It provides fast, once-daily relief from sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, and skin allergies. Available in a convenient 60 ml liquid form, it is suitable for adults and children from 2 years old, making it an ideal allergy solution for the whole family.
What is it used for?
Histolat syrup is used to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis — commonly known as hay fever — including sneezing, a blocked or runny nose, and itchy, watery eyes triggered by pollen, dust mites, pet dander, or mould. It also treats chronic urticaria, the itchy red hives or welts that appear on the skin as a result of allergic reactions.
Dosage and how to use it
Always use the measuring cup or spoon provided with the bottle to ensure the correct dose. Take Histolat at the same time each day, with or without food.
Adults and children 12 years and over: 10 ml (5 mg) once daily. Children aged 6 to 11 years: 5 ml (2.5 mg) once daily. Children aged 2 to 5 years: 2.5 ml (1.25 mg) once daily.
Patients with kidney disease may require a reduced dose — your doctor will advise the right amount.
Do not give Histolat to children under 2 years without specific medical advice.
Common side effects
Most people tolerate Histolat well. Some may experience mild drowsiness or fatigue, dry mouth, headache, nausea, stomach discomfort, or a sore throat. These effects are usually mild and short-lived.
Seek immediate medical attention if you notice swelling of the face, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, a rapid or irregular heartbeat, or convulsions. These may be signs of a rare but serious allergic reaction.
Important safety information
Although levocetirizine is classified as a non-drowsy antihistamine, a small number of people do experience mild sedation. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
Do not use Histolat if you are allergic to levocetirizine, cetirizine, or hydroxyzine, or if you have severe kidney disease. Speak to your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are taking sedatives, sleeping tablets, or anti-anxiety medicines, as combining these can increase drowsiness.
Storage
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use. Do not refrigerate unless stated on the packaging. Keep out of the reach of children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the bottle.
