What is Furosemide 20 mg/2 ml Injection? Furosemide 20 mg/2 ml Injection is a sterile, fast-acting loop diuretic solution supplied in single-dose ampoules for intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) administration. It is one of the most widely used injectable medicines in hospital and emergency settings, prescribed when excess fluid needs to be removed from the body quickly — faster than any oral tablet can achieve. Each 2 ml ampoule contains 20 mg of furosemide dissolved in a clear solution ready for clinical use.

What is Furosemide Injection used for? It is indicated for the treatment of acute pulmonary oedema (fluid in the lungs causing breathing difficulty), severe peripheral oedema associated with heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or chronic kidney disease, hypertensive emergencies where fluid overload is a contributing factor, and oliguric acute kidney injury where stimulating urine output is medically required. It is also used peri-operatively and in intensive care settings to manage fluid balance.

Dosage and administration Dosing is strictly individualized by the treating physician based on the patient's condition, weight, kidney function, and response. Common side effects The most clinically significant side effects include electrolyte imbalances, particularly low potassium (hypokalaemia), low sodium, and low magnesium.
