Saltrol Inhaler (Salmeterol 25mcg + Fluticasone Propionate 250mcg)

Saltrol inhaler combines two active medicines — salmeterol and fluticasone propionate — to help control and prevent breathing difficulties in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Salmeterol keeps the airways open by relaxing the muscles around them, while fluticasone reduces inflammation and swelling inside the airways. Together, they provide both long-term relief and protection against flare-ups.

What it treats

• Asthma in adults and children who need regular preventer and long-acting reliever therapy
• Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) including chronic bronchitis and emphysema
• Prevention of exercise-induced breathlessness (when prescribed for this purpose)

What it does NOT do Saltrol is a preventer/controller inhaler — it is not a rescue inhaler. It will not give immediate relief during a sudden asthma attack. Always keep a separate fast-acting reliever inhaler (e.g. salbutamol) on hand for emergencies.

How to use

• Shake the inhaler well before each use
• Breathe out gently, place the mouthpiece in your mouth, and seal your lips around it
• Press down on the canister while breathing in slowly and deeply
• Hold your breath for about 10 seconds, then breathe out slowly
• Rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent oral thrush
• Usual dose: 1 to 2 puffs twice daily (morning and evening) — follow your doctor's instructions exactly

Important precautions

• Prescription only — do not use without a doctor's prescription
• Do not use as a rescue inhaler during acute breathing attacks
• Not recommended as a first-line treatment for mild asthma that can be managed with a short-acting reliever alone
• Use with caution in patients with heart conditions, high blood pressure, diabetes, or thyroid problems
• Long-term use of inhaled corticosteroids may affect bone density — inform your doctor if you use this medicine for extended periods
• Tell your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, especially antifungals like ketoconazole and HIV medicines, as they can increase fluticasone levels in the body
• Children using this inhaler should be monitored regularly for growth

Who should not use it

• Patients allergic to salmeterol, fluticasone propionate, or any inhaler component
• Should not be used to treat a sudden asthma attack
