Tenoric (Atenolol 100mg & Chlortalidone 25mg) Tablets
What is Tenoric (Atenolol 100mg + Chlorthalidone 25mg)?
Tenoric is a fixed-dose combination tablet that brings together two complementary, proven antihypertensive medicines into a single, convenient once-daily tablet. It combines Atenolol — a cardioselective beta-blocker that slows and steadies the heart — with Chlorthalidone — a long-acting diuretic ("water pill") that flushes excess salt and fluid from the body.
Together, these two medicines attack high blood pressure through two different and complementary pathways, making Tenoric significantly more effective than either medicine used alone. It is prescribed for patients who need stronger blood pressure control — either because their blood pressure was not adequately managed on a single agent, or because their doctor determined from the outset that a combination approach was the most appropriate strategy.
Atenolol and Chlorthalidone is a combination medicine used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Lowering blood pressure may lower your risk of a stroke or heart attack.
What is Tenoric Used For?
Primary Indication:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) — Tenoric 100/25mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, particularly in patients who require a step-up in therapy beyond single-agent treatment or those already established on both components at these doses.
Benefits of Treating High Blood Pressure with Tenoric:
Uncontrolled high blood pressure silently damages your body over time. By bringing blood pressure under consistent control, Tenoric helps protect against:
- Stroke — caused by burst or blocked blood vessels in the brain
- Heart Attack — caused by blocked coronary arteries
- Heart Failure — caused by the heart being overworked for too long
- Kidney Damage — caused by sustained high pressure in kidney blood vessels
- Vision Loss — caused by damage to delicate blood vessels in the eyes
How to Take Tenoric Tablets
- The recommended dose of Atenolol/Chlorthalidone is one tablet once daily, starting with 50mg/25mg then increasing to 100mg/25mg if blood pressure control is not adequate.
- Tenoric is not indicated for initial therapy — it is used when the fixed-dose combination represents the dose appropriate to the individual patient's needs.
- Take once daily — at the same time each day, with or without food.
- Taking it in the morning is generally preferred to avoid the diuretic effect disrupting sleep.
- Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water.
- Your doctor will monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, kidney function, and electrolytes (especially potassium) during treatment.
- Never stop Tenoric suddenly. If it is necessary to discontinue, the dosage should be reduced gradually over several weeks. Abrupt discontinuation can cause exacerbation of angina and, in some cases, myocardial infarction.
